FPS Annual General Assembly: Consolidation, international outreach, and new tools for the community

News - Intro image

On June 18, 2025, FPS members gathered for the General Assembly, organized as part of the EuPA-FPS 2025 congress in Saint-Malo. With 60 participants present and connected, this session provided an opportunity to review the past year, discuss future actions, and vote on the association's financial and moral reports.

A financial situation under control and an investment to secure the future

Paulo Marcelo, FPS treasurer, presented the financial statement for 2024. Expenses remain stable despite a slight increase in banking and logistics costs. However, some adjustments are still needed with regard to revenue. A question was raised by members concerning the increase in the contribution paid to EuPA, even though the number of FPS members decreased in 2025. It was pointed out that this amount is calculated on the basis of the number of members in the previous year. In order to anticipate future needs, a profit account will be set up to invest part of the funds and generate interest. The final balance sheet for the 2025 EuPA Congress will be communicated at a later date.

2025 Memberships: Administrative Follow-up Needs Improvement

To date, 101 memberships have been registered and 51 are still awaiting payment, mainly due to administrative delays in validating purchase orders. The assembly also emphasized the importance of better tracking “donor” memberships.

Communication and modernization: website and newsletter

Delphine Pflieger, president of the FPS, highlighted the work done by Alexandre Burel (webmaster) to ensure regular maintenance of the website. The goal is to post information regularly and improve the visitor experience. On the communication side, Blandine Chazarin presented the quarterly newsletter, which now replaces FPS Mag. While the format is appreciated, there is still a lack of content. A section dedicated to members' achievements will be added, and better formalization of conference feedback is currently being considered. The archives will soon be available online. To complement these tools, it was decided to create an official FPS LinkedIn account, allowing for more responsive communication than the quarterly newsletter.

Support for researchers: awards and grants

On the day of the general assembly, the FPS had awarded a total of 16 grants worth €8,550 and received 19 applications in total. FPS grants are open to students and young researchers, as well as engineers and technicians (ITA), reflecting the association's commitment to inclusion. Some grants, notably for EuPA 2025, have not been applied for. These applications will be given greater visibility. The financial projection for scholarships amounts to €15,900 for the whole of 2025, before a planned decrease in 2026 due to the reduced number of national conferences. The Senior Award was presented to Charles Pineau and the Thesis Award to Laurine Lagache at the EuPA-FPS Saint Malo 2025 conference.

FPS Youth Club: new dynamics

Julie Manessier presented the Youth Club's activity report, which organized one additional day compared to 2024, including a bioinformatics workshop. Thirteen participants took part. Payment difficulties persist with some sponsors, but reminders were sent during the conference. The Youth Club is also continuing its discussions with the YPIC (Young Proteomics Investigators Club of the EuPA) to establish official collaborations. Four members of the board are stepping down this year, and a call for applications will be launched shortly to replace them.

International relations: towards greater collaboration

Delphine Pflieger reiterated the importance of international exchanges, with several initiatives already planned:

  • May 20–22, 2026, in Vilamoura (Portugal): PROCURA conference, chaired by Bruno Manadas.
  • 2027: a joint project with the Spanish Proteomics Society (SEPROT) is under discussion.
  • 2028: organization of Analytics 2 in Bordeaux, from September 11 to 14, with strong involvement from Anne-Aurélie Raymond.

These collaborations strengthen the FPS's international visibility and open up new opportunities for its members.

Votes and approvals

The members present unanimously adopted the financial statement (with one abstention from the treasurer) and the association's activity report.

Conclusion

This General Assembly confirmed the strength of the FPS while highlighting administrative and financial challenges. Initiatives in communication, increased support for young researchers, and international partnerships demonstrate the society's desire to remain at the heart of developments in the proteomics community.
